GUN CONTROL AROUND THE WORLD

Without exception, around the world, when gun control is tried, the hands of the criminals are strengthened, the quality of life is devasted, and freedom evaporates.

Could it happen in America? It could but it won't.

It won't because the real danger of attempted gun control in America is that dreaded word that politicians dare not speak: Revolution. America has 85 million gun owners. Any serious move by the government to disarm America, whether through a vote or through martial law, will be met with a burgeoning and growing revolutionary force, an 85 Million Man March which significantly outnumbers the police and even federal troops.

One in three young criminals is armed
Controls such as the banning of handguns after the Dunblane tragedy have had no effect on the number of illegally held guns that are smuggled into the country, supplied by corrupt dealers or reactivated from supposedly decommissioned stock. Meanwhile, makers of bullet-proof vests are reporting record profits.

A Farmer's Tale
Brits are staring down the barrel of a backward system as farmer gets sent to prison over a self-defense killing. The criminals probably tampered with the jury. John Derbyshire of National Review comments.

Look to Britain To See Gun Control's Stark Reality
"Besides confirming the inescapable fact that criminals don't bother to license their guns, the article stated that fatal shootings in London more than doubled between 1998 and 1999, and overall armed crime rose 10%."

*Civil disobedience in Canada
The Liberal Party government of Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien has provoked what may be the largest, and longest-sustained, civil disobedience in Canadian history. More than twenty thousand Canadian gun-owners have openly declaried their intent to disobey a gun registration law by not complying.

YOU HAVE A MORAL DUTY NOT TO COMPLY WITH GUN CONTROL AND A DUTY TO BEGIN NOT REGISTERING YOUR FIREARMS CLEANLY. YOU HAVE A MORAL DUTY NOT TO DISARM, AND NOT TO TURN IN YOUR WEAPON TO A GOVERNMENT AGENCY.

A Book of Five Rings
by Miyamoto Musashi

One of Japan's great samurai sword masters penned in decisive, unfaltering terms this certain path to victory, and like Sun Tzu's The Art of War it is applicable not only on the battlefield but also in all forms of competition. Always observant, creating confusion, striking at vulnerabilities--these are some of the basic principles. Going deeper, we find suki, the interval of vulnerability, of indecisiveness, of rest, the briefest but most vital moment to strike. In succinct detail, Miyamoto records ideal postures, blows, and psychological tactics to put the enemy off guard and open the way for attack. Most important of all is Miyamoto's concept of rhythm, how all things are in harmony, and that by working with the rhythm of a situation we can turn it to our advantage with little effort.

Nazi Seizure of Power : The Experience of a Single German Town 1922-1945
by William Sheridan Allen

To those transfixed by the question of how the Nazi regime could have come to power, this book provides important clues. From 1928 to 1932 the Nazi party electoral support grew from 5% to 35%, enough to take control of the govenment. How could this have happened?

The author documents a primative marketing operation in which local Nazi party cells were required to raise their own revenue to pay for rental of halls, speakers and materials from higher levels, and direct dues to the central party. Faced with this task, local leaders were forced to pay careful attention to which subjects could fill a hall. One of the most important was anti-Communism. Certainly, many Germans knew what was going on in the Soviet Union, the forceable seperation of anything of value from anyone who owned it and, perhaps incidently, the incarceration and murder of those owners. Sheridan cites accounts of Communist suppression of 'bourgeoisis politics' in Berlin and mentions that the Nazis were perceived as the only group able to 'do something' about the threat.

In sum, many Germans who supported the Nazi party did so in reponse to a direct and credible threat to their persons and their property. Once the party took power it was no longer dependent on the ability of its local leaders to market the product, and it was able to reveal more of its true character, which is more familiar to us.
